Oh So Simpatico!

Oh So Simpatico! Where like-minded lovers of the written word converge

The Short Story Corner

Welcome to the Short Story Corner.  Here, you’ll find various short stories that I’ve composed over the years, as well as works from my fellow writers.  Some have received 1st place honors in writing competitions, while others were written at the spur of the moment.  Pull up a chair and prop your feet up, sip on your favorite soothing beverage, and allow yourself to be enveloped by the stories and get lost in the words.  But don’t forget to come up for air!  I hope you enjoy my collection.

Oh So Simpatico! Visitors Stories

Solid Evidence  by Stephen A. Smith

Stephen, an Oh So Simpatico! visitor from Oakland, CA, penned this story of the unexpected consequences of a gentleman who thought he was going to get the better of his woman.  Turnabout is fair play, as Solid Evidence proves in a humorous and ironic way.

And Just Like That (an excerpt)

Rafe Robinson is a con man.  He has an uncanny ability to gain the confidence of even the most incredulous of souls.  Will his years of betrayal finally catch up to him to haunt him forever more?  "And Just Like That" is a glimpse into the world of one whose duplicity knows no boundaries.

Broken Promises (an excerpt)

"Broken Promises" is a haunting tale of the Brooks family, and one man's struggle to contend with the passing of a loved one.  Read this excerpt that won 1st Place in Clark-Atlanta University’s 2006 Creative Writing Competition.

The Other Woman (an excerpt)

Carla was a woman who prided herself on being strong, confident, and no-nonsense.  That was, until she fell for Damien – hard.  Oh, she was still a strong, confident, and no-nonsense woman, but now there was an added element; one that she struggled to overcome.  Can she remain true to her beliefs and not allow herself to shrink at the mere touch of a man?

Sweet Innocence (an excerpt)

"Sweet Innocence" is the story of two little girls and the wide-eyed innocence they display at the utterance of one little word.  With this story, I endeavored to not only showcase the kind of loveable innocence we have come to associate with children, but also to reveal the innocence of the interracial friendship of these two little girls.

Bethesda Blue  (an excerpt)

A young woman is about to take a journey of personal triumph.  Will her trepidations overshadow her moment of glory?  All is not as it seems, and Bethesda soon realizes that while the journey is within her reach, her fear increases with each passing moment.
